RoboSot Challenge
Research on mobile autonomous robot platforms is receiving increasing attention, especially in the area of household domestic appliances. The problems and challenges faced during the development of these robots vary significantly compared to large-sized robots and humanoid forms. Fully autonomous robots bring challenges in hardware design, communication, co-operation, intelligence, and sensing. Unlike humanoid leagues, RoboSot robots can employ non-human-like sensing and motion systems, creating faster platforms but also new challenges in sensing, locating, and planning.
The RoboSot Challenge is designed to be dynamic, shifting its goals yearly to address emerging problems in this field. Competing teams are expected to find these challenges both interesting and rewarding.
Challenge Structure
The RoboSot Challenge this year consists of 3 major challenges:
- RoboSot Avoidance Challenge
- RoboSot Race Challenge
- RoboSot Soccer Challenge
RoboSot Avoidance Challenge
| Objective | Develop capabilities in obstacle identification and path planning to reach the goal. |
|---|---|
| Task | Bring a specific colour ball to the goal area without touching obstacles. |
| Format | Trial mode, 3 trials per team. |
| Scoring | Points awarded for successful trials. |
RoboSot Race Challenge
| Objective | Develop capabilities in object identification and repeated transfer to specific locations. |
|---|---|
| Task | Search for colour balls and push them into corresponding colour areas. |
| Winner | Team with the highest cumulative score. |
| Robot Options | Teams may build robots from scratch or use commercial robots (e.g., TurtleBot 3 Burger, Bveeta Mini) if they meet specifications. |
RoboSot Soccer Challenge
| Objective | Play a simplified soccer game with autonomous robots. |
|---|---|
| Team Size | Minimum 2 robots, maximum 3 robots per team. |
| Game Duration | 5 minutes per game, with field swap at halftime. |
| Winner | Team with the highest score. |
Conclusion
The RoboSot Challenge fosters innovation in autonomous robotics, encouraging teams to tackle real-world problems in sensing, planning, and cooperation. Each challenge is designed to push boundaries in design and strategy, while ensuring the competition remains engaging and rewarding.
